Kendrapara town bandh over city hospital demand hits normal life

Kendrapara: A bandh observance in Odisha’s Kendrapara town over the demand of a city hospital affected normal life here, today.

The bandh call was given by the Medical Banchao Kriyanusthana Committee demanding conversion of the old building of the District Headquarters Hospital here into a city hospital.

While shops and business establishments remained closed, vehicular movement came to a grinding halt as the agitators blocked road at various places. They also resorted to picketing.

Movement of vehicles on Cuttack-Chandbali main road was severely affected due to the bandh.

Notably, all departments of the District Headquarters Hospital barring Gynaecology and Blood Bank were on January 9 shifted from the old building at Khadianga to new building at Samagudia.

Following the shifting, residents of the town have been demanding to convert the old building into a city hospital.

The old building is currently functioning as Urban Health Centre, where OPD services are available from 8 am to 12 noon and 4 pm to 6 pm.
