‘Killer’ elephant relocated to Odisha’s Chandaka sanctuary

Jajpur: Forest officials today relocated the ‘killer’ elephant to Chandaka sanctuary in the wee hours today. The tusker which was kept at the Mahavinayak Reserve Forest near Chandikhol temporarily was brought to Chandaka at 3.45 am today.

Official sources said the elephant has been chained and kept close to another tusker ‘Shankar’ in the sanctuary. Forest personnel have been keeping a strict vigil on the movement of the ‘killer’ elephant.

After the elephant was tranquilised, Forest personnel had plans to take the elephant to Kusunpur forest under Dalijoda range. However, they faced stiff opposition from locals on the way while transporting the tusker.

The elephant had reportedly killed four persons and injured ten others in Danagadi area under Chandikhol range couple of days back.
