Koraput minor gang rape: Odisha women panel registers suo motu case

Bhubaneswar/Koraput: Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) today registered a suo motu case on the sensational gang rape of a minor girl near Sorishpadar village in Koraput district by armed men suspected to be security personnel.

Further, a four-member team of the Commission has left for Koraput to meet the victim and discuss the progress of the investigation in the matter with senior police officials.

“A team of the Women Commission team has left for the place. The team will meet the minor and record her statement. That apart it will meet the local administration to ensure faster action. We have already spoken to the officials of the local administration and the police in this connection. Immediate steps will be taken for ensuring faster action. The team will also inquire about the needs of the victim and whether proper medical treatment is being provided to her,” informed OSCW Chairperson Lopamudra Baxipatra briefing newsmen today.

Further, earlier in the day, a team of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) met the victim at the District Headquarters Hospital in Koraput.

The team spoke to the doctors attending the victim and inquired about her health.

Notably, a minor girl was gang raped by armed men suspected to be security personnel on Tuesday in a forested area near Sorishpadar village under Pottangi police limits, while she was returning home as we reported here.
