‘Krantidhara’ from Odisha to be screened at Cannes

Odia feature film ‘Krantidhara’ becomes the third movie from Odisha to earn a nomination for screening at prestigious Cannes Film Festival-2015 on May 18.

KrantidharaThe earlier two entries from the state at Cannes were Maya Miriga and Indradhanura Chhai.

After Cannes, the movie has also been nominated to be screened at Canada’s Hidden James Film Festival. While most Indian language movies have been displayed in this film festival, Krantidhara becomes the first Odia movie to be screened here.

Earlier, ‘Krantidhara’ had been nominated for the 12th Chennai International Film Festival and the 7th Bengaluru International Film Festival (IFF) in India where it was displayed in the Panorama section of Indian Cinema category in Chennai and is in the competitive category at the Bengaluru.

The movie depicts the struggle of a woman in a socio-political scenario.

The movie has been directed by ace movie maker Himanshu Khatua, who also has written its screenplay. He had earlier made several award-winning films such as ‘Sunya Swaroopa’ and ‘Kathantara’.

Samaresh Routray and Gargi Mohanty play lead roles in the film along with actors such as Debasish Patra, Priya Mishra, Pushpa Panda, Bijaylaxmi Praharaj, Banamali Pandia playing major roles.

The film has been made under the banner of Kadambini Media Pvt. Ltd and presented by Achyuta Samanta. It is based on a short story written by Iti Samanta titled ‘Jhada Parara Surya’.

“We have once again been successful in taking the standard of Odia movies to a new height and take it to world stage,” said founder of Kadambini Media, Achyuta Samanta.

‘Krantidhara’ is the second Feature Film by Kadambini Media and the first ever Odia film with sync sound.
