Bhubaneswar: Landfall process of Cyclonic storm ‘Gulab’ has commenced over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south coastal Odisha, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today evening.
IMD added the cloud bands have touched coastal regions indicating the cyclone landfall process has started.
The cyclone is expected to cross coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur, about 25 km to the north of Kalingapatnam during next three hours, stated IMD.
Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall (≥ 20 cm) at isolated places are very likely over the South Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places is also likely over Telangana and heavy falls at isolated places over north interior Odisha and Chhattisgarh have been predicted.
Tidal wave of about 0.5 m height above the astronomical tide are expected to inundate low lying areas of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Ganjam districts during the time of landfall of the cyclone, the weathermen stated in the latest bulletin.
