Large quantity of fake detergent powder seized in Odisha’s Sambalpur; 2 held

Sambalpur: A huge quantity of fake detergent powder was seized in different parts of Odisha’s Sambalpur district following a simultaneous raid today. Two people were detained for questioning in connection with this.

Based on two complaints filed by Hindustan Unilever company at Khetrajpur and Ainthapali police stations in Sambalpur town, a team of police personnel led by Additional SP Amaresh Chandra Panda raided a shop near railway crossing in the town. The police seized five sacks of duplicated detergent with a brand name of ‘Surf Excel’. Owner of the shop Naresh Agarwal was detained by the police.

During quizzing, Agarwal revealed an information about a godown in Bareipali area, owned by one Asish Agarwal. Following a raid at the godown, the police seized 239 sacks of detergent and unpackaged detergent powder. Also, the police detained Asish Agarwal for questioning.

The Additional SP informed the samples of the seized detergent were sent to laboratories for tests.
This is the first time an adulterated products manufacturing unit has been unearthed in Sambalpur district.

Unearthing of adulterated food items manufacturing units were reported in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Bhadrak areas of the State earlier. Police seized fake edible items ranging from sauce, milk, oil and ghee to pan masala in these cities.
