Late Odisha Cong leader Lulu’s brother, daughter Upasana join BJP

Bhubaneswar: As anticipated earlier, brother and daughter of late Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar (Lulu) Mohapatra joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a special function at the exhibition ground here in the presence of several senior BJP leaders including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Lalatendu’s brother Lalitendu and daughter Upasana joined the saffron party along with a large number of their supporters.

This apart, former Youth Congress president Satyajeet Patnaik and lawyer Pitambar Acharya also joined the party at the function.

Besides a large number of Congress leaders and workers of Brahmagiri constituency, several leaders and members of Lulu Sena, a youth brigade, also joined the BJP.

“The party with which my father started his political career neglected him but the people of Brahmagiri are always with him and we will fulfill his dreams. This decision was a very tough one but we took it after taking into account the opinion of the people of Brahmagiri who are like a family to my father,” said Upasana addressing the gathering.

“This will increase the organisational strength of the BJP. While the Congress is undergoing a downfall in Odisha, all non-BJD entities are uniting to defeat a non-capable government in the state,” said Pradhan.

Worth mentioning, Upasana had yesterday said her father had a feeling of being tortured from 2016 onwards and was not participating in any activities of the Congress party.
