Brahmapur, Aug 22:

Police is yet to get any leads in the murder of a woman in Brahmapur city of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday night.

The woman, identified as Sobharani Patra (40), was found murdered by her husband in her house at ORT Colony in Gate Bazaar locality of the silk city at around 10 pm on Thursday night.

No one has been arrested in the case yet, police said today.

“The case is under investigation, but no arrests have been made so far. The woman is suspected to have been strangulated. The fact that nothing has been stolen from the premises suggests that the assailants had come with the sole motive of murder”, said Anil Kumar Mishra, IIC, Town Police Station today.

While Sobharani used to run a tailoring unit from her house, her husband Pratap Chandra Padhi runs an NGO.

Pratap claimed on reaching home at around 10 pm on Thursday, he found the door of his house locked. When his wife Sobharani didn’t respond to knocks, he pushed the door open and found his wife dead without any clothes on her body. He said he informed Town police station about it immediately.

Sobharani was a native of Buguda in Ganjam district and had earlier married a person in Kotpad in Koraput district, sources said. After getting a divorce from her first husband, she was staying with Pratap for the last ten years and they had no offspring, sources added.

In the last one month, three women have been murdered in Brahmapur city in gruesome manner and all the three murders were committed on Thursdays. The three murders have taken place at an intervals of 14 days.

On 24th of last month, an elderly woman Swarnalata Rath of Kamapalli Ramanagar locality of the city was the first to be murdered in the series. On August 7 (Thursday) body of a woman Sabitri Moharana was found lying in a pool of blood at the office of Bajranad, a local newspaper in the same Ramnagar locality.Exactly 14 days after Sabitri Moharana’s murder, Sobharani Patra was found murdered on August 21.

Another coincidence is that the names of all the three victims start with alphabet ‘S’, suggesting that there could be a definite pattern to it.
