“They are making tall claims about the development in Gujarat. But there is nobody in the state to listen to the cries of the poor in the state. They should come to Odisha and learn how to eradicate poverty,” Patnaik said during the course of an election meeting here today.

The BJD boss said his government had ameliorated the lot of the poor with a variety of welfare schemes, including the Rs 1 a kg rice scheme and the Mamata Yojana.

Turning his attention to the Congress, the Chief Minister said it had been grossly apathetic towards Odisha and has denied the state its legitimate rights in case of special category status to the state and mineral royalty.
