Lightning strikes claim lives of five persons in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: As many as five persons including a woman were killed and 10 critically injured when lightning struck them in different parts of Odisha today. While two each were killed due to lightning strike in Angul and Bargarh districts, another one died in Rayagada district.

When two youths, identified as Rama Chandra Kis and Dasarath Murmu were standing near CCP Tank in Nalco Nagar, lightning struck them. The duo was killed on the spot.

In Bargarh district, a woman, identified as Nirabati Jala from Kulunda village under Atabira block along with five other women was working in an agriculture field. At round 12 noon, lightning struck the agriculture field killing Nirabati on the spot whereas three other women sustained grievous injures. Later the injured were admitted to the hospital.

A youth, identified as Utsav Bhoi was killed in Baideshapali village under Sohela block in Bargarh district and seven others injured when lightning struck a camp. The injured were shifted to VIMSAR hospital in Burla.

In Rayagada, a man, identified as Padmana Bag in Durupilima village was killed in lightning strike while worshipping the goddess near a mango tree.
