Lightning warning for 19 dists; more rain likely in south, coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The local meteorological centre today issued thunderstorm and lightning warning for 19 districts of Odisha.

As per a bulletin of the meteorological centre, thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur in Keonjhar, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bargarh and Sonepur districts between 1.15 pm and 5.15 pm today.

People in these districts have been advised to take shelter in nearby buildings or other safe locations.

On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in south and coastal parts of the state during the next 24 hours.

Incessant downpour in the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack since yesterday has inundated several low-lying areas creating inconvenience for residents and commuters.
