Lingaraj Temple Mahadeepa Time 2023 for Shivratri: Know timing for placing of the diya atop the temple

Bhubaneswar: Lakhs of devotees thronged Lord Shiv temples across Odisha on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, today.

Major Shiv Temples of the state witnessed huge influx of Shaivites as they made beeline to have darshan of the deity on the auspicious day.

Special arrangements have been made at Lingaraj Temple here, Dhabaleswar Temple in Cuttack, Akhandalamani Temple in Bhadrak, Kapilash in Dhenkanal, Ladu Baba Temple in Nayagarh, Lokanath Temple in Puri and other such temples for the devotees.

Shree Lingaraj Temple Administration authorities have decided the timing for placing the divine Mahadeepa atop the centuries-old temple here.

As per decision at a meeting coordinated by Lingaraj Temple Executive Officer Bhavani Prasad Mishra, the Mahadeepa will be lifted atop the temple at 10 pm followed by Sahanamela and Chariprahara rituals.

Maha Shivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Falgun. Observers of Maha Shivratri vrat resort to fasting on this day and take food next day. They consume fruits and milk during the fast.
