Lion falls ill at Odisha zoo; condition critical

Bhubaneswar: A lion is undergoing treatment after its condition deteriorated at the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) on city’s outskirts here.

The lion ‘Pichhan’ (21) has been kept at food cell of the lion safari on the premises of the Nandankanan.

According to reports, neither the lion is able to move nor can it take food or water properly. The wild animal is being fed by the staff. As its health condition remains critical, the Nandankanan vets are treating the lion with liquid food and vitamins.

The lion is suffering from age-related illness, informed the Nandankanan authorities.

Born on April 24, 1998, Pichhan was translocated from Junagarh in Gujarat to Nandankanan.

Presently, there are five lions and the equal number of lionesses at the zoo.
