Liver transplant unit to come up at SCB Medical College Hospital

The SCB Medical College and Hospital is going to have a liver transplant unit soon.

While a decision to this effect had earlier been taken at the government level, the final blueprint was prepared at a high level meeting here on Wednesday.

Efforts would be made to operationalise the new unit after the modernisation of the fifth floor building of the hospital, the meeting decided. It was was also decided to have a 30-bedded centralised ICU of the unit at the 6^th floor of the building.

The new unit would benefit the poor patients in a big way.

Among others, Prof (Dr) Mihir Mohapatra, head of the Gastroenterology department, Prof (Dr) CBK Mohanty (Medicine), former Professor of DMT Dr Prasanna Das, Prof (Dr) Nibedita Pani, head of the Anaesthesia department, deputy secretary, Health Kulamani Mishra and other senior officials were present at the meeting.

It may be mentioned here that a Kidney Transplant unit has already started functioning in the SCB Medical College Hospital.
