Low Pressure Area forms over Bay of Bengal, to further intensify in 48 hours

Bhubaneswar: A Low Pressure Area has formed over the westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

The system is likely to intensify into a well-marked Low Pressure Area during the next 48 hours, the IMD predicted.

“Under the influence of yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over westcentral and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to become well marked over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts during next 48 hours,” the IMD said.

On the other hand, the Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued heavy rainfall warning for several districts of Odisha in connection with the low pressure area.

Below is the day-wise forecast.

September 8: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri.

September 9: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara Cuttack, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Malkangiri and Nuapada.

September 10: Heavy to very heavy Rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Sonepur and Bolangir.

September 11: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir and Nabarangpur.

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Angul, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
