Low pressure: Extremely heavy rainfall to lash Odisha; Red warning issued

Bhubaneswar: The well marked low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal off Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts is likely to bring heavy downpour for several districts in the state during next five days.

According to regional meteorological centre of IMD, Yesterday’s Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Northwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height persists. It is likely to concentrate into a Depression during next 24 hours and move west-northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Under influence of the low pressure and possible depression, many places in Odisha may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall starting from today.

The weathermen issued red warning, orange warning and yellow warning for several places of the state till August 13 morning.

Aug 8-9: (Red warning) Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places (7 to 20cm) with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam and Kandhamal.

(Orange warning): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, and Kalahandi.

(Yellow warning): Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.

Aug 9-10: (Red warning) Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places (7 to 20cm) with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul and Keonjhar.

(Orange warning): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

(Yellow warning): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Puri, and Rayagada.

Aug 10-11: (Orange warning) Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bargarh

(Yellow warning): Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur.

Aug 11-12: (Yellow warning) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

Aug 12-13: (Yellow warning) Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Balasore and Mayurbhanj.
