Low pressure forms; Heavy rainfall alert for Odisha till Sept 29

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to receive more rains during next five days as a fresh low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal today.

“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, a low pressure Area has formed over eastcentral Bay of Bengal and neighborhood. It is very likely to become more marked during next 12 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards Odisha coast during next 48 hours,” the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, stated in a weather bulletin today.

Due to formation of low pressure over the Bay, Bhubaneswar MeT issued heavy rainfall alert for several districts starting from today till September 29, 2021.

Day 1 (valid from 1.30 PM of Sept 24 upto 8.30 AM of Sept 25)

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Sundargarh.

Day 2 (valid from 8.30 AM of Sept 25 upto 8.30 AM of Sept 26)

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at a few places over the rest districts of Interior Odisha.

Yellow warning: 1. Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada.

2. Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara Cuttack, Khordha, Puri and Jagatsinghpur.

Day 3 (valid from 8.30 AM of Sept 26 upto 8.30 AM of Sept 27)

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning: Heavy to very Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara Nayagarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Bhadrak.

Day 4 (valid from 8.30 AM of Sept 27 upto 8.30 AM of Sept 28)

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of South Odisha and at many places over the
districts of North Odisha.

Yellow warning: Heavy to very Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Sonepur, Kandhamal and Boudh.

Day 5 (valid from 8.30 AM of Sept 28 upto 8.30 AM of Sept 29)

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of South Odisha and at a few places over the
districts of North Odisha.

Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Balangir.

The fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea areas of west central Bay of Bengal adjoining north Bay of Bengal during 25th to 26th September,2021; along and off Odisha coast, northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal during 26th to 27th September,2021.

The fishermen, whoever in deep sea areas, are advised to return coast by 25th evening.
