Low pressure: Heavy rainfall alert for Odisha till Oct 1

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha may experience heavy rainfall during next three days as a low pressure has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal.

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northeast & adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure Area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. It is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, stated in a weather bulletin today.

Due to formation of low pressure, the regional MeT issued heavy rainfall warning till October 1.

From Sept 28 afternoon till Sept 29 morning (Yellow Warning)

1. Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada.

2.Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal.

From Sept 29 till Sept 30 (Orange warning)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places very likely to occur over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh

Yellow Warning

1.Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Dhenkanal.

2.Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack,
Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda.

From Sept 30 till Oct 1 (Yellow Warning)

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.

Under the influence of above system, squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 gusting to 60 kmph is likely over North Bay of Bengal, off Odisha coast till September 30 morning. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea, North Bay of Bengal and along off Odisha coast during the period.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has been active over Odisha. Light to Moderate rain/ thundershower has occurred at most places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of Interior Odisha with Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jajpur and Gajapati in last 24 hours.
