Low pressure to trigger rainfall in Odisha; govt alerts district collectors

The Odisha government today directed the collectors of south, north and coastal districts to remain on alert following formation of a low pressure off the Sri Lanka coast this morning.

In a letter, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said the low pressure is likely to touch the South Odisha coast by December 29 and move in the north-east direction.

Under its influence, most parts of south, north and coastal districts would receive moderate to heavy rainfall from December 29 to January 1, the letter said.

The SRC also asked the Cooperation and Food Supply and Consumer Welfare departments to make adequate preparations for the ensuing low pressure.

Besides, it also asked the farmers to keep their harvested foodgrains at safer places.
