Lunar eclipse: Daily rituals at Puri Jagannath Temple rescheduled; check timings

Puri: In view of the lunar eclipse falling on November 8 (Kartika Purnima), daily rituals of the Holy Trinity at Srimandir in Puri town have been rescheduled, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) informed today.

According to the official source, the Sun will rise at 5.54.53 (HH:MM:SS) and cessation of the Devaniti (rituals of the deities) and Pakatyaga (prohibition of cooking) will begin at the same time.

Suna Besha (golden attire), also known as Rajadhiraj Besha, of the deities will be held on the eclipse day. However, devotees might be deprived of darshan of the Lords as Dwarafita Niti will be conducted at 12.10 am and Suna Besha is to be performed by 2.30 am.

It has been decided to complete the Bhogamandap rituals by 5.50 am.

As Mahasnana, Bhoga and other rituals are to be conducted after Grahan Sparsh at 2.38.14 (HH:MM:SS), darshan of the Lords in Suna Besha may not be possible, the SJTA clarified.

Besides, all the Nijogs (servitor associations) have been requested to carry out rituals in the Vaishnavite shrine smoothly during the Panchuka days starting November 4.

Notably, a meeting of the Chhatisa Nijog was held in this regard in the evening at SJTA Office, under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Administrator and Puri Collector Samarth Verma.

The Administrator (Niti) of Srimandir and all members of Chhatisa Nijog were present.
