The Committee will supervise several infrastructure projects-related to the Nabakalebara festival – worth more than Rs 1,000 crore.

The committee includes the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), central division, who will also be the co-chairman and the collector of Puri who would be the member secretary.

A number of district level officers of other departments have also been made members of the committee.
This was formally notified by the General Administration Department today.

However, surprisingly and inexplicably, the chief administrator of the Sri Jagannath temple Dr Arabinda Padhee has not found a place in the Committee.

The Nabakalebara festival, which involves the replacement of the old wooden idols of the Holy Trinity with a set of new ones, is due to be held in July 2015. The last Nabakalebara festival took place in 1996.

The Odisha government has already sought a special Central assistance of Rs 1,397 crore for the grand event which is expected to draw a crowd of nearly five million people.
