Maid held for stealing Rs 40 lakh from Odisha doctor’s house

Cuttack: Twin City Commissionerate Police today claimed to have cracked the case of Rs 40 lakh loot with the arrest of two persons in Odisha’s Cuttack.

City police arrested the house maid and her son for their alleged involvement in loot at a doctor’s residence here.

The mother-son duo identified as Padmabati Patra and Akshay Patra were employed at Dr Bibhuti Nayak’s house two months ago.

“The house maid and her son were the prime suspects. Upon scanning of CCTV footage and subsequent interrogation, the involvement of the two was ascertained. The woman had cunningly taken the bunch of keys into her possession and used to steal money and other valuables in different intervals. She used to hand over the booty to her son living in Bengali Sahi area. Rs 31, 97, 850 cash, a bracelet, a pair of bangles, and three mobile phones have been recovered from their possession,” said Nimai Charan Sethi, ACP Zone 4, Cuttack.

Worth mentioning, the complainant had neither gone for background verification nor informed the local police before employing Padmabati.
