Mamita Meher case: BJP observes Balangir bandh demanding Dibya Shankar Mishra’s resignation

Balangir: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is today observing a 12-hour bandh in Odisha’s Balangir district over the Mamita Meher murder case demanding resignation of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra.

Effect of the bandh was seen in Balangir Town this morning as shops and business establishments were closed. Vehicular movement was also reduced to a large extent during the dawn-to-dusk bandh from 6 AM to 6 PM.

The saffron party has also been demanding a CBI investigation into the murder case. It claimed that the minister has links with Govind Sahu, prime accused of the murder case.

The party had yesterday observed a 12-hour bandh in Kalahandi district over same demands.

The murder of 24-year-old Mamita Sahu of Jharni village under Turekela block of Balangir district has sent shockwaves across the state. After the arrest of prime accused Govind Sahu, it has been revealed that he had pre-planned the woman’s murder.

Mamita, who was working as a teacher at the Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district, went missing on October 8. Alleging involvement of Govind Sahu, managing committee president of the school, behind her missing, Mamita’s family members had lodged a complaint with police.

Revealing further details on findings of the investigation into Mamita Meher murder case, DIG (Northern Range) Deepak Kumar informed that the deceased teacher was aware of two extra-marital affairs of main accused Govind Sahu and she had warned him to bring his illicit affairs to the fore.

At a presser, the senior cop informed that since Mamita had threatened Sahu to expose him, the latter was holding a grudge against her. To take revenge, he decided to eliminate her.

“After strangling her to death inside his car on October 8, Sahu took the body to the under-construction stadium of the school for disposal. The accused burnt the body with the help of cardboard and tyre before burying it. The next morning, he closed the pit,” said the DIG.
