Man, 2 daughters, grandson killed as van hits motorcycle in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: A man, his two daughters and his minor grandson were killed as the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a pickup van near Indhanpur under Gangapur police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district, today.

The deceased were identified as Jayaram Nayak, his two daughters and grandson of Munigadi village.

The mishap took place when the victims were returning to the village from Gangapur on the two-wheeler after completion of a work.

A speeding pickup van hit the motorcycle and ran over it, killing Jayaram on the spot. His two daughters and grandson were rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the Aska sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared the two women dead.

The minor boy was later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here as his condition deteriorated. However, he succumbed to injuries during treatment at the hospital.

Tension ran high at the place following the incident as irate locals staged road blockade by burning tyres, demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.

The driver of the pickup van fled the spot after the accident.
