Based on reliable information, Marshaghai police raided the residence of Amit Patnaik at Marshaghai late last night and arrested him.

Amit’s cell phone was put under surveillance as investigation revealed his complicity in the case, sources said.

Commissionerate police sources said that they would seek remand of the accused for further interrogation which would help them nab the other accomplices involved in the crime.

It may be recalled that three motorcycle-borne unidentified miscreants intercepted Kuna Mangaraj (36) near Balaji Complex in the city late on February 3 night. After a while, the miscreants opened fire at Mangaraj following an altercation. The assailants fired three rounds of bullets at the victim and fled the spot.

On hearing the gunshots, locals gathered and rushed Mangaraj to Capital Hospital in a serious condition. Later, he was shifted to a private hospital in the city. Mangaraj had sustained bullet injury on his shoulder.

After being informed, Laxmisagar police station Inspector-in-Charge Rajat Kumar Ray reached the site and started an investigation. Police recovered three empty bullet shells from the crime scene.
