Man arrested with 1.9 kg brown sugar from Odisha’s Nayagarh

Nayagarh: A team of Special Task Force (STF) Bhubaneswar have arrested a person for allegedly peddling drugs and recovered 1.19 kg brown sugar from his possession at Kantilo town in Odisha’s Nayagarh district here on Sunday evening. The accused was identified as Hara Prasad Prusty alias Shiva of Chamusahi Patna within Kantilo police limits in Khandapada.

The raid, as per sources, was carried out at Narayani Pitha, Kantilo under Fategrah police limits, based on intelligence input. During search, 1.19 kg brown sugar and other incriminating materials were seized from the accused, who was arrested after he was unable to produce any valid documents in support of possession of the contraband.

He will be produced in the court of District and Sessions cum Special Judge Nayagarh and case under Section 21 (c)/29 of the NDPS Act 1985 has been registered. Further investigation is on, police said in a release.

Since 2020, the STF  in its special drive against drugs and narcotics, has claimed to have seized more than 68 kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 gram cocaine and more than 111 quintal ganja/marijuana, opium 750 gm while arresting more than 166 drug peddlers and dealers.
