Man arrested with fake currency worth over Rs 31 lakh in Odisha’s Balangir

Official sources said Behera was arrested basing on reliable inputs about illegal business and possession of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).

Titlagarh: Police recently arrested a 50-year-old man for alleged possession of counterfeit currency in Titlagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district. The accused, identified as Lingaraj Behera of Kantamal in Kalahandi district, was apprehended near the main gate of Bus Stand park under Titlagarh police limits on Wednesday evening.

Official sources said Behera was arrested basing on reliable inputs about illegal business and possession of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). During search, he was found to be in possession of FICN to the tune of Rs 31,27,500. Other incriminating materials were also recovered from the accused. The accused was then arrested after he could not furnish any valid authority in support of possession of the counterfeit currency notes, and later forwarded to the court of SDJM, Titlagarh.

A case has been registered and the seized fake notes will be sent to Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudrana Pvt Ltd in Paschima Medinapore, West Bengal for examination and opinion. Investigation is on, police said.

Till date, STF has seized Rs 78,70,600 FICN including this seizure.
