Man beaten with sticks by police in Assam; video goes viral

Bhubaneswar: A video of a man being beaten by policemen as well as a cameraman in Assam has drawn criticism from netizens.

In the visual, the cameraman, who was reportedly appointed by the Assam government attacked a protestor, who was lying motionless until the policemen restrained him. The man was already dead after policemen shot him.

As per reports, two persons were killed and nine policemen injured during a clash when an anti-encroachment drive was being carried out by the Darrang district administration in Assam.

Policemen in riot gear and armed with guns and sticks chased and attacked protesters as well as fired shots.

The Assam government ordered a judicial probe led by a retired High Court Judge into the violence.

Worth mentioning, in order to carry out an agricultural project at Dholpur, the Assam government was evicting around 800 families. During the drive, a clash occurred between police and the protestors.

“What protocol orders firing to the chest of a lone man coming running with a stick @DGPAssamPolice @assampolice ? Who is the man in civil clothes with a camera who repeatedly jumps with bloodthirsty hate on the body of the fallen (probably dead) man?” stated Kavita Krishnan, Twitter user while sharing a video of the violence.
