Man burnt alive by son in Odisha’s Cuttack for refusing to give money

Cuttack: Greed for money drove a youth to kill his father by setting the latter on fire in CDA Sector-6 area of Odisha’s Cuttack city.

While the shocking incident took place on Sunday, the youth was arrested yesterday after his mother lodged a complaint with Markat Nagar police.

As per the complaint, Santosh Sahu, the accused, had on the fateful day asked his father Muralidhar Sahu, a staff of the Orissa High Court, to give him Rs 15 lakh.

After his father refused to give him the amount, Santosh took out petrol from a scooter and poured the fuel on Muralidhar. He later set his father ablaze.

On being informed, Fire personnel reached the spot, rescued the victim and admitted him to a private hospital in the area.

However, he succumbed to his burn injuries while undergoing treatment yesterday morning. Following the death, the wife of the deceased lodged a police complaint against her son, on the basis of which he was arrested.
