Man detained for killing wife in Odisha

Police today detained a 48-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife at Baiganbur area under Sadar police station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district last evening.

Sources said Baru Kishan (48) was staying with his wife Basanti Kishan (45) and two children at Baiganbur village under Sundargarh Sadar police station limits.

On Thursday afternoon, the couple had gone to a nearby forest to collect firewood. However, after returning to their home, they had an altercation. In a fit of rage, Baru beat up his wife with a stick which hit her ear. As a result, she bled profusely died on the spot.

The incident took place in the absence of the two children.

As the incident came to light, ward member of Baiganbur lodged an FIR with the Sadar police. Later some policemen arrived at the village in the night and remained on duty near the body.

Police took the body this morning for post mortem and later handed it over to the family members.

Acting on the complaint, police later detained the accused for interrogation.

“We have detained the accused and started his interrogation. We will take appropriate action against him after the investigation” said Sadar Police Sub Inspector Suchitra Jena.
