Man held for allegedly killing lover

Police on Sunday arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly killing a woman and dumping her body in a well in a jungle near Tarsingi in Odisha’s Ganjam district, police said.

While the accused Krushna Pradhan, a daily labourer was arrested from his house at Tarsingi, the body of the woman with whom he had an affair, was recovered from an abandoned well, police said.

IIC Tarsingi, Biswajit Nayak said a sharp weapon which was used to kill the 25-year old woman has been recovered.

A sharp-weapon used to kill the 25-year-old woman was also recovered, said inspector-in charge, Tarsingi police station Biswajit Nayak.

Nayak said the police suspects Krushna to have the killed the woman after she insisted on marriage after an 18-month old affair.

Police sources said accused Krushna had allegedly invited the woman to come to a nearby forested area on Thursday and killed her with a sharp weapon before dumping her body in a nearby abandoned well.

It was only when villagers found the bloated body of the woman floating in the well that the incident came to light, police said.

The woman’s body has been sent for autopsy.
