Sambalpur: A man reportedly jumped into Mahanadi river from Chaurpur bridge in Odisha's Sambalpur district and went missing, today.

The person has been identified as Samiran Pradhan, a resident of Patulidhipa village under Naktideul block of the district. The reason behind his extreme step was yet to be ascertained.

An employee of a private company, Samiran resides in Sambalpur in a rented house with his wife and two children.

His scooter, slippers, and mobile phone were found on the bridge, this morning.

On being informed about the incident, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and initiated a search operation.

Till last reports came in, he was yet to be traced in the water body.
