Balangir: A person died and his mother sustained critical injuries after a truck hit a motorcycle on which they were travelling at Semala Chhak in Kantabanji area of Odisha’s Balangir district today.
The deceased has been identified as Samir Patra of Turekela village. His mother Premalata has been hospitalised.
According to reports, the mother-son duo was returning home from Kantamal in Boudh district on a motorcycle when a marble-laden truck hit the two-wheeler killing Samir on the spot.
Premalata was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the Kantabanji hospital. She was later shifted to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
Tension gripped the accident spot following the incident as irate locals blocked road by burning tyres demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. They also set the truck on fire.
District administration officials and police reached the place and tried to pacify the locals.
