Malkangiri, July 29:
One person was killed while his wife sustained grievous injuries as a pressure bomb went off inside a forested area in Odisha’s Malkangiri district this afternoon.
According to reports, Dora Padiami (45) and his wife Mukhi (40), a couple from Darabhaguda village under Kalimela police station limits had gone to the nearby forest to graze their cattle when they accidentally came in contact with a pressure bomb that went off.
While Dora died on the spot, his wife Mukhi was seriously injured.
Following information, security personnel rushed to the spot and admitted the injured woman at the Kalimela hospital.
The deceased, Dora Padiami was the headman of the village, police said.
According to police, the Maoists had planted the bomb to target the security personnel as part of their violent activities during the observation of Martyrs’ Week.
Combing operation in the area has been intensified in the area following the incident, reports said.
