Man kills wife for refusing to take liquor in Odisha

In an appalling incident, a man allegedly hacked his wife to death in Odisha’s Malkangiri for refusing alcohol.

According to reports, the accused Padia Padiami arrived at his home in Kurukundi village under Kalimela police station limits in the district last evening in an inebriated state and offered alcohol to his wife.  When his wife Koshi refused to take it despite repeated insistence, an enraged Padiami allegedly attacked his wife and two daughters with a sharp weapon injuring them critically.

While a profusely bleeding wife succumbed on her way to the hospital, his two daughters are undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital.

“He came and attacked us. The villagers admitted us to the hospital,” Reena Padiami, injured daughter of accused.

“Three patients—a mother and her two daughters—came to the hospital. According to them, villagers have brought them to the hospital. They have sustained injuries after his father attacked them with a sharp weapon. The woman probably died on the way to the hospital. We declared her dead on arrival. The injured girls are undergoing treatment and their condition is stable,” Gopabandhu Behera, the attending doctor said.

Padia Padiami has been absconding since the incident.
