Man posing as actor Babusan on FB arrested on cheating charges

Jajpur: The Panikoili police today arrested a person for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 37,000 and 70 grams gold ornaments impersonating as Ollywood actor Babusan through a fake Facebook profile.

The arrested has been identified as Rashmiranjan Mahuty alias Shakti, hailing from Latipur village under Khariar police limits in Nuapada district.

According to police sources, a woman of Panikoili area had lodged a complaint against Shakti alleging that he cheated her of Rs 37,000 and 70 grams of gold ornaments on the pretext of giving her daughter a break in movies as a child artist, posing as Babusan through a Facebook ID created in the name of the actor.

The woman, suspecting foul play, later asked him to return the money but he denied to do so and rather threatened her, reports said.

Acting on the complaint, police laid a trap and arrested Shakti. The gold ornaments have been seized from him.
