Man posing as cop arrested for extortion in Odisha

Berhampur: A man was arrested today in Baidanathpur area in Berhampur for his alleged extorting money while posing as a Police Constable. Based on a complaint filed by one makeshift shop owner, the Baidanathpur Police arrested the man, Arun Kumar Naik, a native of Kumari village in Purusottampur area.

As per the complaint, Arun Kumar used to wear a Police Constable dress and extort money from the small traders and makeshift shop owners on State Bank Road and Babajitota area for past few months. As Arun Kumar has been extorting money while threatening the shop owners to remove them if he is not paid money, they were exhausted with such behavior.

The makeshift shop owner, Chittaranjan Patra drew the attention of senior police officers about Arun Kumar’s extortion activities. Following this, the Baidanathpur police launched an investigation and came to know Arun Kumar is a fake Constable.

Today while again extorting money from the small traders on State Bank Road, a team of Baidanathpur Police nabbed Arun Kumar. A case no 6/21 has been registered at the local police station.
