Man robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh inside bank in Odisha’s Puri

Puri: In a daring heist, unidentified miscreants looted Rs 1.5 lakh from a person inside a bank, located in front of the Town police station here yesterday. However, a police complaint has been lodged in this regard.

Sources said one Prahllad Champatiray, a contractor of Kanas area here, withdrew Rs 3.3 lakh from the Union Bank yesterday and kept Rs 1.5 lakh in his pocket and rest in a bag after counting the cash inside the bank.

Six miscreants, who were keeping a close watch on the activities of Prahllad for a while, hatched a plan to rob him. To divert his attention, one of them told Prahllad that he has dropped a Rs 10 currency note on the ground, following which the latter went away to pick the note keeping the bag containing cash on a sofa. In the meantime, another member of the gang stole Rs 1.5 lakh from the bag. Later, the looters escaped one by one.

After coming to know about the theft, Prahllad lodged a complaint at the Town police station.

When asked, senior bank manager Subal Ghadei said, “The incident took place when Prahllad was sitting on a couch inside the bank after withdrawing Rs 3.3 lakh.” Police have already begun investigation into the incident and are examining the CCTV footage, he added.
