Man sets himself on fire at tehsil office in Odisha’s Nuapada

The victim, identified as Jagdish Chauhan of Kalyanpur village within Sadar police limits of Nuapada, has been shifted to VIMSAR, Burla in a critical condition

Nuapada:  In a shocking incident, a man suffered severe burn injuries after he attempted self-immolation over a land dispute issue in front of a tehsil office in Nuapada district of Odisha here today.

The victim, identified as Jagdish Chauhan of Kalyanpur village within Sadar police limits of Nuapada, has been shifted to VIMSAR, Burla in a critical condition. The incident took place outside Nuapada tehsil office in the afternoon.

As per sources, Chauhan was distressed over a pending land-related case and was alleging inaction by the revenue authorities. On Thursday afternoon, he came to the tehsil office and reportedly had an argument with the authorities after which he attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol and setting himself on fire. He was infuriated which triggered him to take the extreme step.

While he was immediately shifted to the district headquarters hospital, doctors referred him to VIMSAR Burla as his condition deteriorated.
