Man strangulates widow to death in Odisha, surrenders before police

Rajgangpur: A widow was allegedly last night strangulated to death by a person who was staying with her at Bagichapada under Rajgangpur police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

The accused, identified as Shrikant Acharya (30), surrendered before police after committing the crime.

According to police sources, Acharya was in a relationship with Surabhi Bag (34), a widow, and staying with the woman for the last ten years.

A verbal duel escalated between the two last night after they had dinner. The heated exchange of words soon took an ugly turn as Acharya, losing his cool, strangulated Surabhi to death.

Acharya then went to the Rajgangpur police station, confessed to his crime and surrendered before police. The body has been seized and sent for post-mortem. Investigation into the matter is underway.
