Man throws acid on wife in Odisha suspecting fidelity

Barely a week after a minor girl was attacked with acid by miscreants, a man allegedly splashed acid on her wife on Monday night suspecting her fidelity in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

According to reports, the accused Thomas Digal of Dimiriguda village suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair and used to beat her in an inebriated state.

The duo had an altercation yesterday too. At around 1.30 am, Thomas allegedly poured acid below the waist region of his wife while she was in bed.

“I had gone to attend nature’s call last night and he followed me. When I returned to my bed, he pushed me and threw acid below my waist region,” the woman said.

The neighbours came to her rescue after hearing the scream. By then, the accused had fled the scene.

The victim identified as Panchami Digal was rushed to Phiringia Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital.

Meanwhile, Phiringia police have registered a case suo motu in connection with the incident.

Following the incident, the local police had launched a manhunt and nabbed him this afternoon.
