Mango fest in Odisha capital in June

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) jointly with Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM) under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department gears up for organizing an exhibition-cum-sale event titled “State Level Mango Festival-2019” in early June.

Swayamprabha Mohanty, Additional Chief Executive Officer and Sujoy Kar, Deputy Director (Marketing), ORMAS prepared a blueprint of the event through detailed discussion in a meeting at the ORMAS conference hall today with the district level officials, representatives of Producers’ Companies and Groups of eight major mango producing districts of Odisha namely, Angul, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Koraput, Dhenkanal and Gajapati.

Mohanty said that the main objective of the festival would be to make available directly from the farmers or producers to the consumers, a variety of locally produced fresh, hand-plucked mangoes which are free from chemical applications.

The festival will create a ground for retail sale of mangoes at lucrative price and profit for the farmers who used to sell mangoes at much lower rates to the intermediaries of bulk buyers and thereby lose the profit they deserve. Different stalls are planned to be set up to display varieties of locally produced mangoes such as, Amrapali, Daseri, Mallika, Lengada, Baiganpali, Himasagar, Totapuri, Sundari etc. collected directly from the farmers or producers for exhibition and sale to the consumers. The event is designed to create a platform for tasting and buying garden fresh, delicious mangoes which are devoid of any chemical applications.

The festival is planned to be organized from 1st to 5th June in the vicinity of the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) campus next to Stewart School nearby CRP Square here.
