Maoists kill two tribals in southern Odisha

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Malkangiri, July 25:

Barely hours after two of the senior most officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) reviewed the security situation in this Maoist infested district in southern Odisha, Maoists shot dead two persons, including a village head, suspecting them to be police informers in Badaliguda village under Kalimela police station in the wee hours today.

The deceased have been identified as Deba Padiami (30) and Ganga Madkami (45).

A group of about 30 armed Maoists stormed the village around 1 am and searched for the two victims. After dragging the two persons out of their houses, the Maoists shot them from point blank range, police said.

Police have denied that the two deceased were police informers and have dubbed their killing ‘an attempt to terrorise tribals’.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh said officials from the police and anti-Maoist operations squad had been rushed to the spot to initiate a probe.

The Maoists were angry with the villagers as they had stopped cooperating ever since a Border Security Force camp was set up three km away from the village in 2013.

It may be noted that the ADG of Border Security Force (BSF) BD Sharma had visited Malkangiri district on Thursday to review the anti-Maoist operations in the district.
