Maoists murder man for ‘cutting down trees’ in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: A man was allegedly shot dead by Maoists for cutting down trees at Laxmanpur village under Raighar police limits in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, today.

The deceased was identified as Narayan Nagesh (38).

As per reports, a group of Maoists picked up Nagesh from his house and fired at him. He sustained bullet injuries and died on the spot.

The extremists, before leaving the place, left a poster mentioning that he was involved with Forest officials in cutting down trees for creating village.

The poster read that Nagesh was carrying out such activities since 2010, for which he was punished by them. The ultras have also issued threat to family members of the deceased.

Police have recovered the body and started an investigation into the incident.

The act of the Maoists has left the residents of the area panic-stricken.
