The body of the deceased, identified as Trinath Madhi, was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit this morning.

Meanwhile, police are investigating into the incident.

Earlier yesterday, three Maoists—including a senior commander of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist)—were killed in an encounter with security personnel comprising of a team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) during a combing operation in Bhejaguda forest in Mathili area of Malkangiri.

It is suspected that the ultras have killed the villager today to create fear among the villagers in the tribal-dominated district.

It may be mentioned here that over 1000 Maoist supporters, including militia members, have surrendered to the district police in the last fortnight. In protest against the recent spate of surrenders, the members of the outlawed groups have called for a bandh on Sep 25.
