Maoists torch vehicles in Odisha’s Nuapada

Maoists today set ablaze at least six vehicles at Kirigiri in Odisha’s Nuapada district neighbouring Chhattisgarh opposing Operation Green Hunt, among others.

The members of the outlawed group torched three water tankers, two mixture machines and a roller machine used in road construction.

According to reports, a group of armed rebels attacked the contractor’s camp at Kirigiri and torched the vehicles used in the road construction work. However, no one was injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified combing operation in the area.

Panic gripped the area as the Reds struck while people were collecting essentials from the weekly market this morning.

Soon after the incident, the employees of the construction company have reportedly fled from the spot fearing Maoist onslaught.

Red posters were found hanging near the village in which the rebels have asked people to raise their voice against fake police encounters in Kalahandi and Sunabeda. Besides, they have demanded withdrawal of security personnel and Special Forces engaged in anti-Maoist operations, stop Operation Green Hunt and the proposed use of drones during the operations.

The banners were undersigned by Odisha State Committee of the CPI (Maoist).
