Maoists were planning attacks on us : Police

In a press release, the police in Koraput have explained the circumstances that led to an encounter with the Maoists near Pottangi on Friday morning.
One Maoist was killed in the exchange of fire.

“They were planning to target police personnel on the National Highway in the Pottangi area the press relase said.

The release says, “ an anti-naxal operation of 202 CoBRA, district police and the SOG was launched after getting information about the movement of an armed group of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in the forest area under Pottangi police limits on Thursday”.

“ At around 0900 hours on 01.11.2013, while troops of CoBRA & District Police were combing the forest area near Tala Paniki village under Pottangi PS, they sighted group of 30-35 armed cadres including some lady cadres. Troops asked them to surrender but the Maoists started firing to kill police personnel,” the press release said.

This led to an exchange of fire that lasted for almost an hour, the release said.

Giving details of the seizures, the release said, “After firing from Maoist’s side stopped, the troops started searching the area and recovered one unidentified body of a Maoist in black uniform, one INSAS rifle, tw0 magazines

20131101_190740of INSAS, 47 live rounds of INSAS, 101 detonators, one Hand-Grenade, camera IED, medicine box, 20 pencil battery, kit bags, polythene sheets, rope, umbrellas, water bottles, two kit-bags containing items of daily use like toothbrush, comb, wrist watch, scissors, soaps needles, tiffin boxes and Maoist literature.”

“As per the information the group is part of the 3rd Central Regional Committee (CRC) of CPI (Maoist) which is the military company of the Naxals. As per further inputs, the same 3rd CRC Naxal group was involved in the Ralegeda incident of August 27 in which four BSF personnel were killed in a landmine blast,” the release claimed.
