Marik takes over as new Odisha DGP

Cuttack, July 6:

The newly appointed Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik was today handed over the charge formally by the outgoing state police chief Prakash Mishra at the police headquarters here.

Marik, a 1981 batch IPS officer was holding the post of special DG, Police Headquarters until now.

The outgoing DGP Prakash Mishra has been appointed as the CMD of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC).

Briefing newsmen here after taking charge his new assignment, Marik said he would give special emphasis on civil policing.

“Considering the frequent road accidents in all major cities including the state capital, top priority would be given to strengthen the traffic system in these cities. Apart from this, steps would be taken to curb incidence of crime in the twin cities, he said”.

He also said that steps would be taken to halt operations of chit fund companies in the state.

Speaking on the occasion, the outgoing DGP said the Odisha Police, in the last two years, have achieved success in all major cases including crime and left wing menace.

“ I hope that the state police would maintain the tempo in the coming days ahead”, he added.

Mishra, who is now on joining time, may join his new post some time next week, sources said.
