Markets, haats to be decentralised in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Amid rising Covid cases, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today decided to decentralize markets and haats in the city.

While issuing guidelines, the city municipal corporation stated the Zonal Deputy Commissioners will identify suitable places in consultation with the respective market associations and local ACP/IIC for setting up markets and haats at decentralized places. The decision has been taken for benefits of public as well as for their safety.

The Zonal Deputy Commissioners will undertake demarcations and barricading so that Covid norms can be followed properly.

Vendors have been asked to sit sufficiently apart so that social distancing norms are adhered by them as well as by public.

The places identified during the first phase and second phase of the pandemic can be utilized this time again, the guideline added.

The enforcement teams of BDA and BMC with the help of local police will ensure proper enforcement in periodic manner in the markets and haats to ensure adherence to the guidelines.
