Masik Shivratri December 2021: Date, Tithi, Puja Time, Rituals

Shivratri holds significance for the devotees for Lord Shiva. Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha of every Hindu calendar month is Masik Shivaratri.

Devotees, who wish to observe Masik Shivaratri Vrat, can start it from Maha Shivaratri day and continue it for a year.

Masik Shivratri December 2021 Date: Dec 2 (Thursday).

Tithi Begins – 08:26 PMDec 02.

Tithi Ends – 04:55 PMDec 03.

Puja Time: December 02, 11:49 pm – December 03, 12:43 am.

Rituals:

The Shivratri Vrat observer wakes up early in the morning, takes bath and wears new clothes.

Wearing a Rudraksha mala and applying vibhuti is important part of the ritual.

The vrat observer visits a Shiv Temple on this day and performs ritualistic bath of the Shiv Ling with water, milk, honey and other auspicious substances.

After the bath ritual, turmeric and kumkum is applied on the Shiv Ling. This apart, a pink and white lotus garland is offered to the deity.

Lighting of incense sticks and ringing the temple bells is also a part of the worshipping.

The devotees should observe the fast throughout the day and chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ mantra while staying awake during night.

Prasad in the form of fruits is offered to Lord Shiva on this occasion.

The fast is broken on the next day by consuming the prasad.
